Before we get into the music though, it’s always best to familiarize yourselves a bit with the artist behind the music. So for those who may be unaware, Allison Saleh  is a singer and songwriter who takes inspiration from spirituality and relationships. Her music can be described as indie, rock, folk, or country. In 2010 she received a music degree in voice and released her first EP "Things I'll Never Say" in 2011.  Her original song "You & I" was featured in the children's film "Bands on the Run." In addition to her skills as a performer, she also owns her own business, “C’est La Vie Arts,” teaching singing and piano.

We got a chance to catch up with the artist prior to this review and she let us know that, “Still I Rise was the culmination of about 10 years worth of writing and experiences. Most of the songs reflect on marriage, mental health issues, divorce, finding hope amidst life’s struggles, calling on one’s higher power, and then finding love again.”

Well we have to let you know right off the bat, we think we may be in love with Allison’s voice. Take the music away for a second and just focus on her delivery and range, it’s truly outstanding. As soon as the EP begins with the opener, “Dust”, you’re immediately sucked into the unique world that the artist has created. Filled with unique piano ballads and an almost musical-like structure to it, it’s not difficult to love it from top to bottom.

In addition to the music being astounding on its own, the stories and themes that are sung about are gripping as well. Pulling from real life and real world situations, Allison lets you into her own world in which she’s translated her experience into song. Throughout the near 30 minutes of run time, spanning 8 total tracks, you get a glimpse of what she’s gone through and how life has shaped her. Luckily for the listener though, it’s not just spoken word, it’s 8 exemplary songs wrapped up into a delicately crafted EP that we’re highly recommending and encouraging you take the time to check out.

So at this point in the review, we truly don’t want to give anymore away. Why spoil it for yourselves before even taking a listen? We would like to reiterate though that if you’re in the mood for a soulful listen of good natured music, wrapped up in a delicate voice, look no further, because this record has your name on it.
