Tackling society's ongoing battle with police brutality, “Chalk Lines” is a direct response and look within to this past year’s Black Lives Matter protests, the changes that need to be made going forward, and the immense loss Americans have experienced. Ink to Spill have captured the essence of drama and melodic inspiration on the single that you can’t help but love.

From lead band member Bob Sauer, “As a young person, I had a few scrapes and traffic stops with the authorities, but I can't imagine what it's like to be concerned that one of those events could turn into loss of life in an instant”. That’s the main message that the band is trying to get across, however, they really take a closer look in the music video that they’ve created for the song as well. We’ve linked it below for you to watch.

Taking away the message of the song for just a moment, we’d love to comment on it in terms of sound and production. Right from the beginning, it’s quite hard hitting in its tone and theatrics. Before any lyrics even enter the situation, you can immediately sense that you’re about to be in for a ride as for what’s to come. At its base, it’s a fairly straightforward rock track, but Ink to Spill puts their signature sound over it and truly makes it their own. It’s heavy in feel and lyricism, but you can tell the content means a lot to each and every member.

Comparing “Chalk Lines” specifically to the rest of their discography, we do feel that it’s a bit of an outlier, but for a great reason. We’ve received a handful of songs like these that comment on racial injustice, BLM, and more, yet we can confidently confirm this is easily the best we’ve received. In terms of presentation and execution, they’ve really knocked it out of the park. If this happens to be your first dive into the band’s music, let this be your first listen, you will not be disappointed.

With all this being said though, we absolutely recommend and encourage you all to not only listen, but to check out the music video as well. Enjoy!
