Following up his self-titled debut album, Johnny Gillespie has delivered yet another thriller of a record titled How You Like Me Now? Please read on for our full review of the album, as well as a background on this emerging artist.

Putting together his own brand of acoustic Hip-Hop, Johnny Gillespie always makes sure to infuse a heaping dose of soul into all his music. On his second full length LP How You Like Me Now?, that fact stays true as the artist explores new and complex themes through his always innovative and exploratory lyricism. Truly, we can’t wait for listeners old and new to embark on this meaningful album.

At 16 total tracks, spanning right around 42 minutes in complete run time, Johnny Gillespie covers a wide array of topics and effortlessly shows off his flawless flow in the process. Endless in detail and always showcasing a top tier production, this artist was firing on all cylinders as this album began to take form. For us, you can fully expect a cohesive listen that was masterfully crafted to be listened to in order from start to finish as opposed to skipping around aimlessly. There’s a message being displayed, but it comes when you listen in order.

Typically on a record with a larger amount of tracks like this, you’d imagine getting tired or burnt out due to repetitiveness, however Johnny Gillespie has created a collection of bangers that hit endlessly. On a shorter track length, you’re experiencing virtually zero filler on each track, rather the most high quality output from an artist who’s got a lot to say. Creatively speaking, he’s hitting so many different genres that all seemed to gel together, music lovers across the spectrum will find something to love here no matter what.

For us though, we really enjoyed a lot of the collaboration tracks featured as well. Some of the standouts were those from Joe Bakhos, Ronnie King, and Steve Ferraro. All had something important to add or perfectly complemented the record in a way that was needed. There isn’t a single moment presented here that doesn’t immediately make you want to hit skip or stop, which is why we’ve got to confidently recommend you give it a listen as soon as you can.

That’s enough reading for now, we suggest you get listening! All important links can be found below, where you can also follow along for more on the way hopefully soon.
