Displaying their vulnerabilities for all to take in, (Eli)zabeth Owens’ full length album Knock Knock is one of the most ambitious and audibly striking records we’ve heard in quite some time. For this Baroque-pop singer and songwriter, you can fully expect a wide variety of electronic samples, experimental production, and vocals that will send shivers down your spine. We are 100% recommending this record.
Coming in at 11 songs, spanning just around 57 minutes in run time, Knock Knock is a direct continuation of Owens’ debut record, Coming of Age. On this record, Owens goes deep on complex themes and stories that explore sobriety, ego deconstruction, and spiritual materialism. As jaw dropping as the entire package of the album is, we sincerely urge all who are about to dive in that they give a close listen specifically to the lyrics. There’s so many stories being told and a ton of dots to connect as this is a mature listen.
In terms of listening and the overall experience, we quickly came to the conclusion that Knock Knock is about as cohesive a listen as you can get. While most albums don’t challenge the listener and rather rely on cheap gimmicks or standout singles, Knock Knock delivers the full album experience from start to finish. We didn’t have any particular favorite songs and the reason being is that it felt like the entire record flowed effortlessly. Start yourself off with the opener “Once in a While” and lose yourself within the mix.
Even at an hour in run time, it shockingly went by so fast. The experimental side of it all piqued our interest to the point where we were laser focused and anticipating the next move. In our opinion, there isn’t a single flaw we could point out and we sincerely can’t wait for everyone to check out Knock Knock.
