Bon-Psy delivers a thought provoking new instrumental track, "Ikigai"

Review by Austin Sher

Here with one of his many singles released in 2020, is Bon-Psy on the spectacular track, “Ikigai”. We’re loving it! Please read along with us as we share our thoughts on the single, in addition to a background on the artist himself.

For those who may be unaware, Bon-Psy, also known as 23 year old Gianluca Cardinale, is a United Kingdom based producer who is successfully creating future electronic beats that bridge the gap between melodic and experimental. Directly injected with wonky rhythms and grooves, the artist’s music gains influence from a handful of genres and artists including jazz, ambient, and glitch.

On this single specifically, “Ikigai” (the Japanese concept related to finding one’s purpose), “is a leap into uncharted territory in the Experimental Electronic scene, and once again an artist defining piece nailing down the staples of the Bon-Psy sound”. At just under five minutes in runtime, Bon-Psy manages to explore and blend an immense amount of genres in the most beautiful way possible.

Imagine you’re hiking through the mountains with nowhere to go, just living in the moment, this is the type of music you’d want playing in the background. It’s carefree, yet precise in its endeavour to keep the listener on their toes in terms of what’s next. First impressions of a single always come from the artwork associated, and in this case it was truly the perfect gateway to the world of Bon-Psy. It lives and breathes as a track in his ever expanding discography, but also is a peak into where his eventual sound is headed.

While this was our first dive into the music of this particular artist, let it be known right now that it absolutely will not be our last. Someone so masterful in their vision to create something like this early in their career deserves the respect and want to be followed into their journey as a thoughtful musician. We’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on what’s to come in the coming months and years.

Basically what we’re trying to say here is we are loving “Ikigai” and highly recommend and suggest you take the time out of your busy days and listening schedules to fit it in, it will absolutely be worth your time.
