Isabelle Fries shares a riveting new piano ballad, "All We Had"

Review by Austin Sher

It’s official, Isabelle Fries’ newest single, “All We Had” has blown us away with its recent release. Please do yourselves a favor and read along for our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist herself.

Directly inspired by the music of Amy Winehouse, Elton John, The Lumineers and Maggie Rodgers, Isabelle Fries is blending modern music with the essence of the classics. After recently graduating from USC, she has been on a roll with the release of her latest singles, "Every Time" and the most recent, “All We Had”. Both are absolutely wonderful and worth your time to check out.

In addition to her musical career, Isabelle is also the founder of the Bulamu Raise Your VoiceCommunity Foundation. She has partnered with the Global Livingston Institute and traveled to Uganda to perform for their annual iKnow Concert Series where over 30,000 attendees were tested for HIV. Isabelle and her foundation strive to teach the communities in Africa how to sustain their villages from within.

As you can see, Isabelle is so clearly taking the right steps in life to not only be an incredible humanitarian, but gracing the world with the joy of her music. On “All We Had” specifically, what you’re going to hear is a perfectly dramatic piano ballad with Isabelle’s delicate vocals shining through it all. Seriously, a majority of the instrumentation taking a backseat to Isabelle was the right call here. As much as listening to her story was riveting, it’s tough to get past the shivers she’s going to give all the listeners of the song.

After comparing her discography to this newest single, we really enjoyed the direction she took things as well. All in all, it’s thoughtful music made for a listener who isn’t just looking for background tunes. It’s art as much as it is music, with the vocals being as much of an instrument as the actual instruments used are. In our opinions, when you stop hearing the background and are glued to the forefront of what’s going on, that’s when you know you’ve got a winner of a song.

While this was our first foray into the music of Isabelle Fries, it’s certainly not going to be our last. We’ll be watching this career with a close eye and are quite interested to see what else she can release in the coming years. With all this being said, please check out “All We Had”.
