Black Belt Eagle Scout Soars to New Heights at The Echo

On May 4, Katherine Paul, known by her artist name Black Belt Eagle Scout, took to The Echo stage in Los Angeles, CA. The multitalented singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and producer has a very unique sound, combining elements of rock, folk, and culture. Paul is a member of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, which is from the Pacific Northwest and is inspired by her heritage and surrounding natural landscapes.

Her music has a very strong, honest feel, but is also simultaneously soothing. A portion of the profits from ticket sales went to Potlatch Fund, an organization that helps with grants and leadership development within tribal communities.

Starting off the night was artist Primer, followed by Paul’s bandmates, Claire Glass and Adobo, who split the second opening slot. As each opener finished, the venue kept filling up in anticipation for Black Belt Eagle Scout. When Paul finally started her set, the room was packed full of audience members of all ages, all quietly and patiently listening to the artist play. Most songs on the setlist were from their 2023 album, The Land, The Water, The Sky, such as “Don’t Give Up” and “Nobody.”

However, she also played a few songs from previous projects as well. Biggest hit, “Soft Stud,” was an exciting song for a lot of attendees and a lot of fans started to dance when they heard the familiar rhythm of their guitar strumming.

You can catch Black Belt Eagle Scout at several festivals this summer and supporting Julia Jacklin on tour.
