In typical Thundercat fashion, last night at Glasgow’s famous Barrowlands Ballroom, he shredded the faces off of thousands of concert goers for a night that will go down in musical history. Having traveled all the way from Los Angeles to Glasgow for the event, we can confidently say that the trip was worth it, and Thundercat continues to stay at the tip top of his live game. Continuing on his tour for Grammy-nominated It Is What It Is, we got the extra special opportunity to experience an international crowd for one of our favorite artists of all time. We’ve had the pleasure of seeing Thundercat perform all over the United States, but didn’t quite know what to expect when being immersed in a sea of Scottish concert goers. Well, the crowd brought an unprecedented energy like we’ve never experienced before in our lives. You could palpably feel the excitement coming off of the band and the performance was as great as we could imagine.

We suppose we can call ourselves veteran Thundercat attendees, because by this point half of the fun of going to these shows are watching the uninitiated watch in pure awe as he tears up the stage with his exemplary bass skills. In any normal concert setting, you pretty much witness formal song after song and there isn’t much variation, but not at these shows. Watching as first timers get lost in his sea of sound and psychedelic nature will never not be a show in its own as these events are about as non-traditional as possible. For example, Stephen Bruner and company will rip into “I Love Louis Cole” and it’ll transcend to become a 10+ minute jam that eventually finds itself in the end. Meanwhile, you’re there standing there feeling like you’re in a hypnotized trance waiting for the madness to come to a climax. If that isn’t a reason to check out his show wherever he may be playing next, then we don’t know what is.

After enduring the pure madness for about an hour and a half, the band does get around to the hits like “Dragonball Durag” and “Them Changes”, but before you know it, they’re saying goodbye and your night is coming to an energetic end. You’re probably thinking to yourself, should I quit my job and see him on tour full time, then snapping back to a cold reality. Regardless, you can guarantee that it’s a show like you’ve never witnessed before and will undoubtedly be attending the next. Long live, Thundercat.
