Khruangbin Delivers the Good Vibes at Corona Capital 2021

Hands down, there isn’t a better live set right now than Khruangbin. Wherever they go or whatever they play, you can fully expect to be turned into a super fan by watching them. If it happened to be your first time seeing them at Corona Capital, then you know what’s up, but if it wasn’t, it was just another memorable show that set the tone for the rest of a wonderful musical weekend.

Kicking the set off right off with an extended version of “Time (You and I)” was a bold decision, but ultimately the right one to get the people dancing immediately. Having just witnessed their greatness at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre a week back, they saved that for the end, so it was a nice reverse surprise to see them open with it. Going right into “August 10th” was another lovely addition, but ultimately our highlight of their set was their medley.

Featuring ACDC’s “Back In Black”, Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets”, Kool & the Gang’s “Summer Madness”, and a few others, they single handedly provided one of the most memorable moments of any festival we’ve ever attended. For those that haven’t seen them do the medley, it’s always welcomed, but provides that chill break between the main set that lets you know these guys are for real.

Made up of Laura Lee (bass), Mark Speer (guitar), and Donald Ray “DJ” Johnson Jr. (Drums), it’s honestly shocking to realize that all that sound is coming from just three individuals. Seriously, the expansive nature that their live show exhibits, you’d think there’s at least 5-6 members of Khruangbin, however that just goes to show you the depth of their talents.

There really isn’t much else to say here, other than Khruangbin was a highlight of Corona Capital. We’ll wrap things up by saying if they’re coming to a city near you on tour, don’t miss it!
