Boston Calling 2025 Brings Another Year of Endless Outstanding Music

This year’s Boston Calling was a mixed bag—weather-wise, genre-wise, and lineup-wise—but in the best way possible. While the overall bill didn’t quite measure up to other major festivals this season, that meant smaller crowds, faster transitions, and a chill energy that let each set breathe. The elimination of the secondary stage and the impressively fast main stage turnarounds made the whole weekend feel smoother than ever.

Kilby Block Party Day 3 Shows Off Weezer, St. Vincent, Wallows, & More

As I have attended more concerts in SLC, there is no doubt that people shout “Take your shirt off!” very early in anyone’s set, it is genuinely disturbing sometimes. Montell Fish, an American singer, himself said “You guys are supposed to be religious, I don’t know about this ‘take your shirt off’, definitely not taking it off mindset”. It can be easy to tell if someone is from Utah at a show because some Utahns are definitely one to say “Take your shirt off” starting during one of the first few songs at any male show, and continuing the rest of the set.

Kilby Block Party Day 2 Brings Medium Build, Youth Lagoon, Hovvdy, & More

To start off the day, Cardinal Bloom, a local band consisting of Josh Thomas (guitar), Nathan Adair (drums), Joey St. John (lead singer), and Jacob Silvester (piano and keys) played one of the two bigger stages at the venue. Anyone who played at this stage immediately was taken back by the beautiful mountains that take up a majority of their gaze. I can honestly say that something that sets this band apart is that each of them have majestic hair that captivates anyone in their audience bringing about the rock within their indie-rock genre.

New Order Blows the Roof Off of SLC's Kilby Block Party

Thursday’s half day was day one of Salt Lake City's Kilby Block Party. The festival's array of local businesses included some antique booths, permanent jewelry, and other business sponsored lounge areas. There are always bright neon colored signs and opportunities for photo ops, this year there were furry monster face silhouettes to stand in, 70’s looking signs saying “love hurts” or “best friends” or “kilby”,
