Anthony Presti debuts his stripped back country tune, "Walk the Line"

Review by Austin Sher

Currently based out of San Francisco, California, Anthony Presti has just released a fantastic new single, titled “Walk the Line”. Join us as we give an in-depth review into what we thought of the song, as well as a bit of background on the artist as well.

Originally from Menlo Park, California, Anthony Presti is no stranger to moving around. In fact, had he not made his way to Seattle at a young age, it’s very possible his love for Soundgarden wouldn’t have grown, and this song may not have been born. The song’s overarching theme is an ode to the tragic loss of Chris Cornell, who committed suicide not long ago. For some, writing and singing about losses can be therapeutic and we get the feeling that putting pen to paper to deal with the loss was an extremely helpful avenue for Presti.

While Presti classifies himself as an alternative rock singer and songwriter, this song is through and through a country song, and a touching one at that. “Walk the Line” is a compelling country tune about the suffering and depression of one’s idols and dealing with the grief of losing them. According to Presti, “I never thought Cornell was dealing with such demons. To me, he seemed invincible, escaping a scene with his life intact when so many of his peers hadn’t. It crushed me that I didn’t recognize this and that he didn’t get the help he deserved,". Honestly, we couldn’t have possibly said it better ourselves. What we may think the meaning of the song is versus the artist’s intentions are, it always becomes difficult to extrapolate true meanings.

Getting into the track itself, this a beautiful straightforward country single that we thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. It gave us soothing and calming feelings that really hit the spot during unprecedented times. The lyrics are heavy, yet heartfelt, and the emotion conveyed throughout the near 4 minute track were borderline spiritual for us.

It’s absolutely a stripped back song and while Presti’s voice very obviously shines on “Walk the Line”, the background vocals joining him were really the cherry on top. The guitar picking and playing were not the forefront of the track and I really feel that Presti chose that route to highlight the lyrics. It’s hard hitting and was really nice with repeated listens on it. It immediately found a place on our mood based playlists and we can’t wait to listen to it in perhaps a more calming setting.

If you enjoyed listening to this single, get excited because Anthony Presti is currently working on his fourth studio album, Different Places, which is set to release on September 21st. We hope you’re as excited as we are, because if “Walk the Line” is any inclination of a full record, then we see a masterpiece on its way.
