Attack the Sound serve up endless grooves & energy on "Let It Out"
There’s a very special kind of chemistry in music that can’t be made up in a studio, no matter how polished the production or expensive the gear. It’s the spark that happens when two voices are truly meant to be. On “Let It Out,” Chicago outfit Attack the Sound capture that feeling with such a joy, delivering a single that feels like the equivalent of a wide smile you can hear through the speakers.
Built around flirtation, tension, and plenty more, “Let It Out” thrives on its almost conversational energy. The vocal interplay is the song’s beating heart to say the least. There’s wit in their delivery, warmth in the harmonies, and just enough vulnerability creeping through the cracks to give the track plenty of emotion.
The opening moments immediately pull listeners into a groove-heavy universe that feels unmistakably indebted to classic soul. Let us say, the Stevie Wonder fans are going to foam at the mouths with that intro! But then the song expands outward, layering in modern indie pop textures, crisp percussion, and silky production choices that give it a glow. Attack the Sound’s self-described “Chi-Pop” identity makes perfect sense here. Jazz, funk, R&B, and pop all melt together into something you unfortunately don’t hear much of today…but they’re doing that sound a service!
The instrumentation deserves its own standing ovation. The horns burst through the mix with pure joy, adding a ton of color that makes the song feel alive. Beneath them, the bass grooves with effortless cool while the drums lock into a rhythm so infectious it practically hijacks your pulse. If you’re not dancing by the song’s end, listen again!
Founded by Army veteran and Chicago firefighter Davo Sounds, Attack the Sound have long been celebrated as one of the city’s most exciting acts, and “Let It Out” feels like another major step forward. The band’s ability to merge soulful grit with that modern production gives the song a timeless quality. The way that they’re able to slow things down in the mid section and ramp it back up to finish it back off was a vet move as well.
