Bad Bloom capture greatness on massive single, "Automatic"

Following up their wonderful 2021 EP Leave, Bad Bloom have made a quick return with a seriously gripping new single titled “Automatic”. Please read on for our full analysis of the track, in addition to a much needed background on this talented band.

Perfectly toeing the line between Shoegaze and Dream Pop, Bad Bloom are certainly adding their own signature sound and freshness to these genres that need it so badly. For those out of the loop, Bad Bloom are made up of husband and wife (Kate Rogers and Jay Trovato) and are currently based out of New York. What we’ve heard from them so far has been nothing short of stellar and we sincerely can’t wait for everyone to dig into their music as a whole.

While the band has been described to sound like a mix between Beach House and Ride, we couldn’t help but feel like that comparison instantly made sense as Kate’s vocals were eerily reminiscent of Victoria Legrand. As divine and silky smooth as the vocal delivery was throughout the entirety of “Automatic”, really the entire presence and package of it at all is what sold us the most. The instrumentation was nicely varied of course, but the all encompassing sound wrapped around our entire bodies as we went into our listening blaring it on a nice set of speakers. We’ll go ahead and recommend you do the same on your first experience.

Even comparing “Automatic” to the sound of their Leave, we can audibly hear the improvements even though the turnaround time between releases was short. The production is about as great as it could possibly be, they’re mastering the “wall of sound” effect, and keeping things original to the point where we know we’ll be listening to anything they release for years to come. Shoegaze is definitely a genre where it’s hard to differentiate bands from each other, however Bad Bloom is a project we could 100% decipher from the rest of the pack.

Even better, the band’s got big plans for 2022 in that more music is on the way and a tour is in the works. Not only do we highly recommend you give the song a listen, but make sure to follow them on their social media to stay tuned for everything else. We know we will be! Enjoy!
