Billy Summer previews "The Test" off of his upcoming EP "Emergency Breakthrough"
Making a much needed appearance in 2022 with a fantastic new track titled “The Test”, Billy Summer has done it again on this summer-centric song. Read on for a closer look, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.
Giving us his first piece of music since 2021’s EP Stephen Kings, Billy Summers has led off with a synth-fueled single called “The Test”. Leading the charge with a spacey production, bright guitars, and his signature lo-fi vocals, we can sincerely only classify this one as a classic indie jam. If for some reason this is your introduction to the artist, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a listen as soon as possible.
As this is serving as Billy’s lead single off of his upcoming EP Emergency Breakthrough, it didn’t take long for us to quickly realize that we needed more immediately. His music as of lately has been featured on high profile shows such as Ted Lasso, Search Party, and more, which is where we recognized him from initially. However once we did a deep dive ourselves, the tunes spoke to us in a way that has us geared up for a busy summer. There’s no doubt in our minds Billy’s music will be at the top of our playlist, but specifically, “The Test” has crept up to become one of the more catchy tracks we’ve experienced as of late.
If anything, this song has us feeling nostalgic in a sense for this style of music from the mid-2000’s. There’s certainly a ton of modern elements that show themselves here such as the instrumentation and futuristic production, but we can’t help but make comparisons to the likes of The Strokes or Spoon. It’s a massive compliment in our eyes seeing as though those are some of our favorite acts and “The Test” has 100% scratched that itch for a feeling we miss. At this point though, we’re craving more from Billy Summer and can’t wait to see what else he delivers as Emergency Breakthrough hopefully gets released sooner rather than later.
