Bino hits back with a lush new EP, "Blue"

Review by Austin Sher

Released officially on Christmas Day, we’re thrilled to announce that Bino has released a spectacular EP, Blue. Read along with us as we share our thoughts on the record, as well as a refresher on the artist.

In case you forgot, it wasn’t too long ago that we covered “One More Time” by Bino, which we loved, but now the artist is back with an incredibly cohesive and well produced EP, Blue. Currently operating in Chicago’s hip hop scene, and releasing more music regularly, we’re confident that this record might just be his best yet.

Coming in at 5 songs, spanning 13 wonderful minutes, Bino explores a handful of different deep themes within his lyricism on Blue. Productionally speaking, it sounds incredibly well put together. An instant recommendation would be to listen to this with a nice pair of headphones with the bass cranked way up, that’s really where it shines the brightest. What we really did love the most was just how laidback the record was overall. That’s not to say that any of his past releases were too upbeat for our taste, but Blue allows for the listener to look within.

Instrumentally, this is about as diverse as it gets for a straightforward hip hop record. One thing that we couldn’t help but notice was the finger picking acoustic guitar thrown in way back in the mix that added another level of depth that was very appreciated. Layering original beat after beat helped as well, but everything else helped to develop a sound that was way more complex than most records released in the same vein.

While it would be way too difficult to pick out a single track as a favorite, we’ll just have to give the recommendation to listen to it in full from front to back. Considering it’s less than 15 minutes, it won’t take up too much of your precious time, and also is a fantastic thing to put on when you don’t want to commit to something longer.

As we’ve been listening to Bino’s music over the months, the amount of maturity we’ve seen within his sound has been truly outstanding! We truly can’t wait to hear more, but for now, we’ll be spinning Blue.
