Bird Dreams unveil their long-awaited self titled EP, "Bird Dreams"

Our dreams have finally come true! Bird Dreams are back and better than ever with the release of their self-titled debut EP, Bird Dreams. We’re loving it! Read along with us for our full review of the record, as well as a refresher on the band.

Based out of Berlin, Bird Dreams are an indie pop band crafting music in an imaginative style, including incredibly adventurous songwriting. Born in 2017 by duo Laura Bondí and Danil Zverkhanovsky, they added on the talents of keyboardist Joschka Oßke and drummer Hiromu Seifer in 2019 to complete their lineup.

Now while their genre is certainly indie pop at its bass, this band is quite different in their approach to music as a whole. According to the group, they perform “with a somewhat unorthodox rhythm-section where the bass part is carried out party by the guitar using an octaver effect and partly by a synth bass. This is due to the guitarist's playing style and it's a challenge forcing the band to find original arrangements.”

You may remember our coverage way back when we covered their debut singles, “Movin’ On” and “Metro Dream”. Thankfully though, the band is back and they’ve just put forth this beyond impressive debut effort that’s coming in at a total of 6 songs, spanning 25 colorful minutes. Featuring some of their singles that were released in the past, there are still some newer tracks being displayed here that complete the sound that they’ve built.

Our initial thoughts on this were just how perfectly progressive this listen was a whole. As each member of the band is talented on their respective instruments, the way that they’ve come together to create a sort of psychedelic thriller is unprecedented. From the unique stylings in vocal delivery, to the time signatures being played with, this is a listen that is surely one to take the most poignant of music listeners by hold. The short of it is really that you’re going to totally love what is being played here!

Hearing everything separately as the singles came out and then being able to hear the complexities and cohesiveness of the EP as a whole definitely made the listen more special. The impressions we got were that their sound is reminiscent of Hiatus Kaiyote, but they’re still adding in so many different signature pieces and after effects that we think their approach might just be better. Truly, we don’t have a single negative thing to say about the record. It’s something that we’ll continue to listen to until their next release, which we sincerely hope isn’t too far off!

With all that being said though, do yourselves a favor and get into this record as soon as you can. You’re going to love it no matter what, so go ahead, click play, and let their tasteful music flow on through you. Enjoy!
