Blue Coffee engineer their own style on debut album, "In and Out"

Released officially on January 17th, 2021, Blue Coffee have put forth a fantastic debut record, titled In and Out. Read along with us as we share our full thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on the band as well.

Recorded over the past year or so, Blue Coffee have finally followed up their 2019 EP with a complete and cohesive record, In and Out, that we are absolutely thrilled with! Inspired by some of the greats such as Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and the Foo Fighters, they’ve managed to inject their own signature style and sound into the crowded indie rock space.

Made up of Gautier Rodriguez, Nicolas de Bank, Sébastien Tourel, and François Debiol, Blue Coffee have taken an idea and spiraled it out into an album complete with perplexing soundscapes, pitch perfect vocals, and riveting instrumentation. Coming in at 9 total tracks, spanning 32 minutes, this album completely rocks from the first note to the last. We’ll kick things off here by already letting you know that this is a record we are highly recommending.

As for the band though, Blue Coffee came from an imaginary place, where souls colored blue during those special hours announcing a new day or a new night, when everything can still be created, written and played. They’re approaching music from a different type of eye and angle. What you’ve got to do first is look at their musical influences and directly compare to their output. Just based off the album opener, “Minor Opening”, it definitely had a feeling of mid-2000’s Radiohead, especially on their second record The Bends. While it was similar in sound, Thom York would certainly be proud of hearing this.

What we loved most about the record though is you can audibly hear how much fun the group is having. They’re playing loosely, yet the sounds are tight and succinct. They weren’t afraid to experiment a bit throughout the middle of the record, and even when they did, it still stayed true to their overall sound that they were trying to go for. When you hear their music, and especially what we’ll probably hear in the future, we confidently think that you’ll know distinctly it’s coming from Blue Coffee.

Our bar for judging indie rock type records is typically a little bit higher, just because it’s something we’re more familiar with, however the band have blown our expectations out of the water and crafted a seriously impressive debut record here. As mentioned, we’re definitely recommending to all the rock and music lovers out there. Considering that it’s just a little over 30 minutes in its runtime, it stays approachable and allows for you to introduce yourself to your new favorite band.

With all being said though, In and Out was a joyous listening experience and we’re so happy the band’s music is now in our lives! For all things Blue Coffee, to listen, and to keep up with all future releases and information, please check out the following links below.
