Callie Carlucci surpasses expectations on debut EP, "Beneath the Surface"

Just released on October 1st, 2021, Callie Carlucci has completely surpassed all of our wildest expectations on her debut EP, Beneath the Surface. Stop what you’re doing and read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on this immensely talented artist.

Putting together a collection of stories over the past six years, Callie Carlucci’s EP Beneath the Surface is as imagery-filled within the lyricism as it is astonishing on the vocals front. While she’s no stranger to music in the slightest, it was finally about time that she took the skills she’s been working on and put together something. To no surprise in the slightest, the end product has been wonderful and we can’t wait for everyone to get their ears on it.

At 5 total songs, spanning just around 22 minutes in total run time, our initial reaction after listening in full was just how original and truly innovative of a sound Callie Carlucci managed to create. Bordering on the dream pop genre, mainly due to impressive production and atmospheric effects, the EP took twists and turns within its aim that kept us guessing from the get go. As the instrumentation led us to believe that things would be generally restrained, there were still climaxed moments that exploded in sound, emotion, and passion that will definitely have us giving a relisten as soon as possible.

Influenced by some of the greats like Natalie Merchant, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus, you can certainly hear those influences come through, but really Callie has innovated a new sound. Some songs like “Ready” were perfect representations of spiritually emotive piano ballads, where others like “Gin & Tonic” relied on fun and bouncy synths to create a fun time. On just these five songs, she’s mastered a well rounded listen that can be enjoyed at seemingly any moment of the day. Some albums require a certain setting, but we’ll be listening again whenever the mood strikes.

Without giving too much else away, we want to make the point clear as day that this record straight up rocks. We’ve included all the important links below in order for you to listen, follow along, and stay tuned for everything else on the way. We hope you love it as much as we did!
