The classic Casino Games given a new lease of Life Online

In all forms of entertainment, including music, classic content can suddenly become popular again when placed in a new format. Think of the young people rediscovering The Beatles on Spotify, or how classic club tracks can be rediscovered now that collecting vinyl is back in fashion.

The same rules can apply to casino games, with many given a new lease of life in the online format. Some of the reasons are logistical, such as the (technically) unlimited space an online casino has to house games compared to the limited space a physical casino has. Nonetheless, some games – or specific game variants – that are out of fashion offline can suddenly trend online. These are some of the best examples:

Craps

The resurgence of craps at online casinos is probably the best example of this argument, mainly because craps tables are becoming harder to find at land-based casinos. Indeed, when you do find craps tables, particularly in Vegas, you’ll note that they usually have relatively high minimum bets. Online, you can find multiple variants (live or virtual), and you’ll be able to play the games casually for low stakes if you want.

Blackjack

Ok, the choice of blackjack needs an explainer as it remains the world’s most popular casino game offline, so it doesn’t really need a new lease of life. Yet, what you’ll find at online casinos is a much larger selection of different types of blackjack, some of which you can no longer find offline. It means players have a much wider choice of games, including those with key strategy elements like surrender. As with craps, you can choose to play software-based games or real dealers if you like.

Roulette

As for roulette, the same applies as with blackjack, with special twists and variants that you won’t find offline. There are also newer roulette games, such as Lightning Roulette Live, which can offer much bigger payouts compared to standard roulette. We’d also point out that online players will almost always be given a choice between European and American roulette and never forced to choose one or the other. The European version has much better odds for the player.

3-Card Poker

The traditional games of poker, such as Texas Hold’em and other variants that appeal to tournament players, are not just as popular at online casinos. Yet, the 3-card variant is hugely popular online. It’s not abundantly clear as to the reasons, though some players have cited the simplicity of the game as a key attraction.

Hi-Lo

The most simplistic of all casino card games, and one you certainly wouldn’t find at a land-based casino. Hi-Lo is a simple strategy game played with a deck of cards where, you guessed it, you have to predict whether the next card will be higher or lower than the last. This game is best played in the software version, as the live odds can be calculated based on probability. It’s a simple game, but it’s endlessly compelling.
