Sleepsleeprepeat debuts the first installment of his monthly singles, "1"

Released officially on January 12th, 2021, Davis Branch has released the first of his 12 monthly installments of instrumentals, titled “1”. We are loving it! Please do yourselves a favor and read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist’s project.
Currently based out of Nashville, Davis Branch is a composer, producer, and songwriter who’s creative instrumental project Sleepsleeprepeat is set to release 12 singles over the course of 2021. A taste of what you’re going to hear are various ambient chill and post rock instrumentals that you’ll be sure to vibe along with.
According to Davis, “1” is personifying the month of January and was created to experiment with musical soundscapes. Breaking outside the inclusion of lyrics, the music is speaking on its own. As we continue to listen to each single released monthly, Davis also wants to let the reader know to “keep an album mindset” as you continue to listen to all new iterations.
As for the music itself, it is a wonderful perfection of post rock, we mean that. Reminiscent of the greats such as Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Tortoise, this two and a half minute track presents a handful of fantastic ideas and soundscapes and expertly runs with them. Instrumental music always need to be a cut above the rest, mainly because there isn’t a vocalist who can save the day in melody, so the music must be top notch. With that being said though, the first single released in this series is an absolute winner in our eyes and ears.
While this was our first dive into the music of Davis and his project, Sleepsleeprepeat, you could consider us big fans already. Post rock is a style that we feel doesn’t get nearly enough attention, so to see artists continuing on in the genre and doing a great job of reviving it, we can’t help but to commend them.
