Originally from Central Wisconsin, Evan Meulemans is a singer and songwriter who’s taking elements of Reggae, Americana, and Blues, and fusing them into his own signature sound. His newest album Waves has become everything we needed in a relaxing yet vibrant record. As this was our introduction to his music, he’s beyond impressed us. Without a doubt, you’re going to love this.

Comparative to Jack Johnson or Trevor Hall, he’s still managed to carve out his own niche with Waves. As sonically striking as the instrumentation really is, he’s making music with a purpose that challenges the listeners to “find love, create balance, seek contentment, and find connection with one another”. It would definitely be in your best interest ot pay close attention to the lyricism, because not only is it meaningful, but it’s quite clever as well.

Now based in Western New York where he works on an organic farm, we’re over here hoping there’s a ton more downtime in his life so that we can get a follow up as soon as possible. Although we definitely plan on continuing to relisten as often as possible, these are the types of feel good songs we need in our lives. There truly aren’t enough artists making soul-filled music like this that pushes creative thinking. Not to mention that uplifting feeling it left us with, especially on songs like “On My Way” and “One of a Kind”.

Another thing we feel the need to point out is just how dynamic Evan’s vocals were as well. It feels like there’s so much going on, but the one constant of Waves is that he aims to one up himself in terms of hitting those unattainable highs. The warmth in his voice was super comforting, which definitely played a part in why we enjoyed the album so quickly.
