Garrow Hill shreds through the void on massive new track, "We Are All But Nothing"

York alt-metal duo Garrow Hill are back and they’ve undoubtedly harnessed a very specific type of energy on their latest single, We Are All But Nothing. It’s a track that doesn’t just flirt with existential dread, it dances in its shadows, digs into its soil, and raises something monumental from the void.

The power pairing of Stew King (vocals/guitar) and PG Branton (drums/vocals) delivers a track that’s heavy, theatrical, and surprisingly melodic, bringing a fusion that speaks to their influences while carving out a fresh identity in the alt-metal landscape. They’ve brought a lot of obvious influence from the greats, but honestly, they’re essentially ingredients in a concoction that’s uniquely Garrow Hill.

The song opens with a growling, distorted riff that feels like it's clawing its way out of the underworld. It’s grimy and immediate, the kind of opening that commands attention without compromise. King’s delivery is full of desperation and defiance, cutting through the arrangement like a flare in a storm.

Branton’s drumming is outstanding in its own right, seriously. It’s not just hard hitting, rather it’s building and reshaping the song’s dynamics as it evolves. His harmonic contributions add a spectral quality, reinforcing the atmosphere without veering into melodrama. Instead, there’s a richness to the textures that feels cinematic, like the score to a nightmare you don’t want to wake up from.

For all its weight and grime, there’s a catchiness to the structure that lingers long after the song ends. It’s the kind of track that sticks in your head not just because of its force, but because of just how smart it feels. The highs in the chorus feel euphoric in contrast to the gritty verses, a switch up that mirrors the song’s lyrical confrontation with meaninglessness and mortality.

Garrow Hill has ultimately transformed the whole song into an anthem. It’s one that’s fit not just for the darkness of a dive bar, but the light of a stadium stage. The composition plays with energy and time signatures, which for a “music nerd”, is another layer to really hone in on. The song morphs and breathes like a living thing, pulling the listener along for the journey that this song really is.

In a genre often oversaturated with repetition, Garrow Hill are a welcome outlier. Truth be told, as long as they keep releasing, we’ll keep listening! Go ahead and crank this one up by clicking those links below and don’t forget to follow along for more as well.
