Genevieve Sovereign displays her experiences on EP, "It's Yours"

Lyrically empowering and vocally magnificent, Genevieve Sovereign has just shared a marvelous debut EP titled It’s Yours. Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the artist.

Recently released on March 18th, 2022, Melbourne-based artist Genevieve Sovereign has finally wrapped her up debut EP It’s Yours after working on it for around a year. Well, the wait was ultimately worth it because she’s delivered an instrumentally perplexing yet completely cohesive record that’s worthy of your time and attention. We’ve listened a few times through at this point and have still continued to uncover its subtleties. Please don’t miss out on this, it’s a great listen from start to finish.

Says Genevieve on its creation, “I knew this would be a massive and eventful journey, and I was starting at the tiniest baby steps – just learning how to sing and write songs and use a DAW. But I knew too that progress would build faster than expected in many ways, if I kept working hard. So I began this vlog as a motivating way to stay keen and aware of my own growth. It’s been hugely valuable as a learning aid, and also as a series of time capsules”.

Now that you’ve got a bit of background, let us tell you just how much we’ve enjoyed it. Coming in at 5 total tracks spanning right around 18 minutes, the artist has done a tasteful job of juxtaposing thoughtful instrumentals with meaningful songs that feature her divine set of vocals. With help on the audio engineering from veteran Joel Taylor, the collaborators really put careful thought into the atmosphere of the background. A sincere recommendation would be to check this out with a nice pair of headphones as so much of the greatness comes through in the minor production effects presented in the background.

Lyrically speaking, she’s invited the listeners “on a quest for self-understanding, as well as reconnection with something “bigger” than the self”.  Truly, you’ve got to make a connection within the lyricism as it really does let you in on the story of someone who’s experienced something so unique. We mentioned it above, but there is such a cohesion on It’s Yours that it was absolutely necessary to listen uninterrupted from start to finish, otherwise you’d be missing out on the full experience.
