Ghost Town Marshalls crank it up on 2nd single, “Double” - Interview

Some songs feel like they’re solely engineered for earbuds. Others are clearly meant for dashboard speakers, crowded barrooms, summer festival fields, and voices shouting the chorus back at the stage with beer raised overhead. “Double” by Ghost Town Marshalls belongs firmly in the second category. It’s an unapologetically fun, anthemic blast of country-rock that understands one simple truth better than most modern rock records, sometimes great music is supposed to feel good.

Formed in Detroit in 2022, Ghost Town Marshalls are made up of Kimberly Spears on vocals and keyboards, Phil Figlioli on guitar, Ron Frank on bass, and Joe Goleski on drums and vocals. Together, the band channels a deep affection for the last five decades of American music into something that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly alive. Their sound pulls from Seventies classic rock swagger, the grit of country, and the timeless pull of hook heavy songwriting without ever sounding like a tribute act trapped in amber. This one manages to capture it all perfectly!

From the opening moments, the track surges forward with the kind of upbeat energy that practically demands you move. The groove is immediate, the guitars roar with warmth instead of overprocessed sharpness, and the entire arrangement carries a loose confidence. This is country-rock with dirt under its fingernails and a grin on its face.

Kimberly Spears’ vocals are a major highlight throughout the song. She delivers every line with strength and a real confidence that gives the track its heartbeat. There’s a classic quality to her voice that recalls the era when rock singers sounded like actual people rather than digitally polished avatars. She knows when to lean into power and when to let the melody breathe naturally.

But “Double” works because every member of the band brings something essential to the table. Phil Figlioli’s guitar playing is fantastic, balancing crunchy rock drive with tasteful country phrasing that keeps the song feeling grounded. Ron Frank’s bass work quietly anchors the entire track, giving the rhythm weight and momentum without ever becoming overbearing. Joe Goleski’s drumming ties everything together beautifully, energetic without feeling overly busy, and the oomph the song really needed to put it over the top.

The authenticity of it all came through perfectly during our interview with Kimberly Spears, where we discussed the meaning behind “Double,” the song’s production process, the band’s internal dynamics, and the exciting road ahead. Spears was thoughtful, passionate, and deeply enthusiastic about the creative momentum Ghost Town Marshalls are currently building. The band already has another new single on the way along with plans for a full-length album, and based on the strength of “Double,” there’s every reason to be excited!

In our opinion, Ghost Town Marshalls simply focus on writing songs people want to play loudly. “Double” succeeds because it embraces joy, energy, and craftsmanship without overthinking itself. However, Kimberly did hint at a more stripped down ballad coming as their next track, so we’ll 100% be interested to see how that sounds. However, we already know that at its core, it’s going to rock.
