Imani Archer delivers a perfect single on her latest, “TIL DEATH DO US PART!”
Immediately, this is some of the most perfect sounding production we’ve experienced all year, seriously. “TIL DEATH DO US PART!” from Los Angeles singer, songwriter, and producer Imani Archer is a thrill ride of a single. We’ve been calling it a 10 out of 10 since the first listen and the more time we spend with it, the more that feels right.
Archer blends dark pop and R&B with deeply personal, introspective lyrics, drawing from her own struggles with heartbreak and mental health. That honesty is all over this track. It feels like a ballad, though it’s not quite one, and at its heart it’s basically a love song. It aches with vulnerability and still finds strength in the middle of it.
The production is some of the best we’ve heard all year as mentioned. You must listen with a nice pair of headphones to experience every second of it! Every layer feels deliberate, and the arrangement builds with patience, giving the song room to breathe and grow. Ohhh does it grow. The emotion lands so hard and in the last minute it’s pure glory.
Her vocals are the star of the show. They sit right up front, and there’s just the slightest glimmer of effects and production that makes them pop over the instrumentation without ever feeling artificial. She sounds intimate, like she’s singing right beside you. Even the mixing on this song is incredible as her vocals subtly shift from from left to right.
100% though, the bass work deserves a special mention too. It’s understated, but it’s absolutely essential, giving that soundscape a deep rumble underneath everything that you feel as much as you hear.
At just under four minutes, the track never overstays its welcome. By the final notes you’ll probably want to press play again right away. We know we did!
