Jeffrey Chan’s EP "Boys Like Us" is a fierce, glittering Pop triumph

Australian-born, LA-based pop provocateur Jeffrey Chan plants his flag deeper in the neon-lit landscape of queer electro-pop with Boys Like Us, a bold and unabashedly seductive EP that wears its heart on its sleeve. Just released recently on June 20th, the record is a reflection of queer nightlife — where sex, gossip, and joy swirl together under the pulse of a bass-heavy, mirrorball glow.

From the very first beat, Boys Like Us asserts itself as a celebration of queer stories rarely spotlighted in such crisp, high-octane pop. It’s an EP made for bodies in motion: flirtatious 3 a.m. glances, and the sometimes-messy, always-electric connections that happen between lovers and strangers alike. Chan’s production is tight, layered with deep, elastic basslines, shimmering synth pads, and addictive percussion loops that give every track a relentless forward motion.

For us though, it’s Jeffrey’s vocals that elevate this beyond just another batch of club-ready bangers. He sings with palpable yearning and seductive confidence, shifting seamlessly between breathless declarations and intensity. It’s a voice tailor-made for both whispered secrets in a dark booth and shout-along hooks that beg to be screamed in packed venues.

There’s a wonderful, modern precision to the production that mirrors the polished sounds of Troye Sivan or Kim Petras, but Chan infuses his own distinct perspective throughout. You can hear it in the tiny, playful production choices: a stuttering vocal effect here, a sudden drop into ethereal pads there, little sonic moments that keep the listener on their toes. It’s pop made by someone who clearly reveres the genre’s history while pushing it into fresh, personal territory.

The EP feels meticulously built for the live stage too, with anthemic choruses and propulsive beats practically begging for a Pride crowd or packed club to belt along with. Jeffrey will be launching this release with a headline LA show and a series of Pride festival dates which feels absolutely fitting — Boys Like Us was made to be heard loud, danced to without hesitation, and felt in the bones.

With this EP, Jeffrey Chan doesn’t just deliver a collection of songs; he offers a snapshot of queer life in its chaotic, glitter-drenched, beautifully messy glory. Boys Like Us isn’t afraid to be sexy, dramatic, or sentimental — sometimes all in the same song — and it’s this bold honesty paired with exceptional pop craftsmanship that makes it such a thrilling listen.

Through its 5 track and near 17 minute runtime, you can’t help but feel the beat flow throughout you! So please, go ahead and click those links below to listen in, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for everything else in the works.
