Jessamine Barham dreams up a new sound on expressive single, "Freak Show"
Making her valiant return in 2023, Jessamine Barham is back and has gone above and beyond in creating a new concept single titled “Freak Show”. Do yourselves a favor and read on for a closer look into the track, as well as another update on this burgeoning and multi-talented artist.
Consistently keeping things short, sweet, and to the point, Jessamine Barham has wasted no time whatsoever creating a highly specific vibe on “Freak Show”. Leading with her expressive and emotive vocals, this track is sonically so much different than what we’ve experienced in the past. However, it feels as though she’s taken a turn for the positive and expanded her repertoire in terms of creativity and focus. Whatever label you’d like to put on it, just know we love it, and it’s exactly why we’re excited for everyone to give a listen.
Though it’ll quickly become apparent once you connect two and two within her words, ultimately “Freak Show” is a song about “an evil ringmaster who mistreats his workers at his carnival. It is a commentary on those in charge exploiting those under them”. Whether you’re immersed in the corporate world, an unfortunate friendship or relationship, or something eerily similar, chances are you can relate to the message. In this case though, Jessamine has produced this song was an overwhelming feeling of sort of a carnival-esque tone, as presented within the instrumentation. That’s the main factor in it sounding different, but once you dig a little bit closer, it’s her vocal patterns that have adapted too! Not only is this is a fun listen due to what makes it all up, but it’s a life and learning lesson for those who may not realize the trouble that lies ahead.
At just two and a half minutes, historically a little long compared to her catalog, she’s expanded things and really got her point across all the while embarking on a niche musical sound and style. We’ll never be able to guess what’s up Jessamine’s sleeves as she’s always kept us guessing over the years, but truly, this continues to be a standout the more we go back and listen.
