Joseph Robinson shines bright with a catchy single, “You and Your Ghost”
Some songs hook you so fast you barely notice it’s happening! Trust us when we say “You and Your Ghost” from Joseph Robinson is one of them. It’s incredibly catchy, bright, and uplifting, and by the time it wraps up, you’ll probably be ready to hit replay.
Robinson is a Toronto based indie pop artist, vocalist, songwriter, and content creator, and he’s built a reputation on explosive stage presence and emotionally driven songwriting. You can hear that energy on this track even without a live crowd in front of him. There’s a confidence in the way the song moves and it makes you believe like he’d be a blast to see in person. We can only imagine the singalong that would ensue witnessing this live.
The real star here is his voice, that should probably go without saying. It’s truly exceptional, and with a four octave vocal range, Robinson clearly has plenty of tools to work with. What’s impressive is how he uses them though without ever feeling like he’s overdoing it. He lets his range serve the song, moving between smooth, controlled moments and bigger, more soaring ones with ease.
Musically, this is very much a pop song at its core, but it’s got some interesting shades running through it. Robinson draws on R&B, jazz, and alternative pop influences, and they show up in subtle ways. It’s not quite jazzy and it’s not quite rock, but it lands in a really nice alternative pop space that feels fresh and modern. The blend gives the track more personality than your average pop single and it’s super fresh sounding.
The production is polished and bright too. It’s got that radio ready shine without sanding away any of its character. It’s also nice to know where Robinson’s talent comes from. He started performing at just eight years old through the Young Singers of Canada choir program, and that early training and love of performing seem to have stayed with him all these years later.
All in all though, “You and Your Ghost” is a beautifully sung piece of alt-pop that shows off exactly why Joseph Robinson is an artist worth watching! It’s a fun, feel-good listen with real vocal firepower behind it.
