Kai Rush’s “Everybody Needs Me” is spiraling Pop confession you can’t shake

It’s incredibly easy to love a song where the vibe is upbeat but the words tell a completely different story. “Everybody Needs Me,” the latest from Kai Rush, thrives exactly in that space. It’s upbeat, hook-driven, and immediately infectious, but spend more than a minute inside it and you start to feel the ground shift beneath your feet.

Rush, a Berklee College of Music student and self-described “mixing pop” artist, builds his sound at the crossroads of genres, blending a ton of elements into something jam packed with those signature hooks. The track leans into a guitar-centered foundation, laced with acoustics, and truly making it feel like you’re in the room where it was recorded. Those guitars drive the rhythm forward while the production remains crisp and uncluttered, allowing the song’s ideas to seriously shine without ever distracting you just for the sake of it.

At first listen, “Everybody Needs Me” feels like a carefree indie pop anthem, the kind you’d expect to soundtrack a late afternoon drive or something like that. That aforementioned hook arrives quickly, and trust us, you’ll be humming along by the song’s end. But truly, you’ve got to listen to those words to really wrap your head around how multifaceted it all is.

Though the song isn’t just about melodies, it’s the emotional contrast woven into the whole thing. Beneath the bright instrumentation lies a much more complicated story, one about losing yourself in the pursuit of building a life, about the quiet damage that can come from drifting through your own existence. The verses carry that weight, delivering moments that feel introspective and raw, even as the music keeps things moving.

Rush’s vocal performance strikes the perfect balance between charisma and vulnerability. His delivery is approachable, but there’s an undercurrent of tension that gives the song its depth. He knows when to lean into the melody and when to let a line breathe.

As the track progresses, it begins to spiral in the best possible way. The latter half builds toward a kind of whirling climax, where the sense of disassociation hinted at earlier becomes more pronounced. It’s a subtle shift, but an effective one, turning what initially feels like a straightforward pop song into something incredibly thought provoking.

There’s a deceptive simplicity to “Everybody Needs Me.” On the surface, it’s a tightly constructed indie pop track with a killer hook and undeniable replay value. But underneath, it’s wrestling with bigger ideas, without ever losing its sense of fun.

Kai Rush has completely proven he understands one of pop’s oldest tricks, if you can make people move, you can also make them feel. He does both effortlessly, and that’s one of the many reasons why we’re lovin’ it.
