Kat Madleine revives a 90's sound with single, “I’ll be right there”
On “I’ll be right there,” Kat Madleine makes a compelling case that the emotional arc of 90s power-pop never disappeared, it simply waited for the right voice to bring it back into focus. The German artist, producer, and “musicologist” has built her work around what she calls “Vocal Kinship,” and this song feels like the ground floor for that idea. The song is ultimately a celebration of deep friendship, loyalty, and the promise of showing up when it matters most. At the end of it all, she’s crafted something that’s so wonderfully sincere and confident, and we couldn’t help but love it on the first listen.
The song immediately unfolds with a sense of restraint that feels deliberate rather than minimal. Piano lines arrive gently, while understated drums provide just enough pulse to keep the song breathing. The instrumentation is hand-played and tactile, evoking the golden age of 90’s pop-rock balladry, yet she’s infused this wonderful and modern cinematic polish that adds such a lush sheen to the whole song from start to finish.
However, it’s really Madleine’s vocals that are the undeniable centerpiece of the track. Front and center in the mix, her performance is emotionally open and sucks you right in with her words and tone. There’s a strength in her delivery that recalls the era’s great anthemic voices, but also an intimacy as if she’s singing directly to you. The melodies, her range, and just the general openness are what makes this song so universal and relatable.
She’s really embraced this concept of “Vocal Kinship” that comes through not just in theme but in her execution. It’s the kind of song that works just as well in quiet reflection as it does in a shared, emotional sing-along. Believe us, it’s certainly catchy enough to learn the words and hum along on the second or third listen as well!
Having been raised on those 90’s ballads, this song is literally like a time capsule of a different era. Of course she’s managed to channel that in the whole structure and blueprint, but there’s still plenty of modern moments that stick out as well. Whether it’s the genre or not that allows the lyrics to be the main communicator, Kat really did an excellent job of getting her point across.
She’s on a broader mission to lead a global 90’s revival grounded in real instruments and human connection and this is the definition of it. “I’ll be right there” proves that music played with heart, intention, and craftsmanship doesn’t age, it waits. We’re thrilled for whatever else is in the works, but for now, we urge everyone out there to click those links below and of course to stay tuned by following along for more.
