Kevin Honold aims high with a cinematic single, “Everything”
On his latest, “Everything,” Kevin Honold has given us a vibrant, emotionally charged slice of indie rock that feels built for wide horizons. Right off the bat it’s a song that understands momentum not just as volume or speed, but as keeping things light and instrumentally beautiful. From its opening moments to its expansive final lift, the track unfolds like a journey where purpose steadily sharpens.
Honold’s self-defined “Rhythmic Rock” style is on full display here like we’ve previously experienced on his song “Honey”. He blends laid-back confidence with an undercurrent of drive that keeps the song loose and of course, rhythmic. The groove is relaxed but never passive, upbeat without being overstated. There’s a natural swing to the sound that gives the track warmth, while still leaving room for emotional weight to settle in. From a songwriting standpoint, the blueprint of it all is exceptional in teasing you right up until it finishes.
Vocally, Honold sounds completely at ease. His delivery is fun and soulful, carried by a sense of sincerity that never tips into melodrama. The vocals feel communal, as if designed to be sung back in a crowded room, yet they retain an intimacy that keeps the listener personally invested. Even those minor backing vocals do a ton of heavy lifting, giving the song so much depth!
We’d be fools if we didn’t point out Honold’s use of horns, particularly the tenor saxophone, which has become a signature of his sound. Rather than treating brass as a novelty, he weaves it naturally into the fabric of the arrangement. When the final section arrives, the addition of tenor sax, cello, and trumpet feels earned and cathartic, transforming the song into something genuinely cinematic. The horns don’t overpower the mix, they elevate it. He could have easily overpowered it all but they fit in so perfectly in a way that really transforms the whole song.
The production throughout is excellent, polished but organic, capturing the energy of a full band while still making things feel real. Every instrument has space to speak, yet nothing feels isolated. Generally we feel the song works best because it’s easy, breezy, and honestly fun to listen to. It’s a track about commitment and focus, but it never feels heavy-handed in its execution. Instead, Kevin Honold offers a chill, vibrant, and uplifting listening experience that rewards repeat plays.
“Honey” was fantastic, but as he continues to release, he continues to get better. So please, go ahead and check out “Everything” below and of course make sure to follow along to stay tuned for the latest!
