Klep creates a cinematic & immersive new album, "Chatter in the Skull" - Interview

In the ever-evolving landscape of underground hip-hop, few artists manage to blend raw emotion with theatrical flair as effectively as Klep. Emerging from Michigan's vibrant scene, Klep's sophomore album, Chatter in the Skull, offers a compelling exploration of overthinking and internal conflict, all wrapped in a soundscape that’s as haunting as it is captivating.

Released on March 7, 2025, this 15-track, 44-minute opus delves deep into the psyche of an artist unafraid to confront his demons head-on. From the opening track, “Brain Spasm (An Introduction to the Chatter)” featuring Beatbox Jake, listeners are thrust into a world where intrusive thoughts and self-doubt reign supreme.

Klep's lyrical prowess shines throughout the album. Tracks like “Penicillin” and “Frequencies” featuring Stray showcase his ability to weave intricate narratives that resonate on a deeply personal level. His flow, reminiscent of his influences like Eminem and Insane Clown Posse, is both aggressive and introspective, capturing the duality of his musical persona.

The production on Chatter in the Skull is a testament to Klep's versatility. Drawing parallels to the experimental sounds of groups like Clipping., the album seamlessly blends elements of horrorcore with alternative hip-hop, creating a sonic experience that's both unsettling and mesmerizing.

During our interview with the artist which gave us an outstanding understanding of just exactly how this was made, Klep gave us priceless insight into the production, collaboration, and vision for the record. Though of course the album is required listening, learning all about would definitely help to give certain things context. Plus, it was an absolute joy getting to pick his brain about the specifics!

Beyond the music, Klep's commitment to his craft is evident in his involvement with his group, Bio Killaz, and his engagement with the broader hip-hop community. His dedication to storytelling and authenticity sets him apart in a genre often saturated with superficiality.

In Chatter in the Skull, Klep offers more than just an album; he presents a visceral journey through the labyrinth of the human mind. It's a bold statement from an artist poised to leave an indelible mark on the hip-hop landscape.
