Langside shares an incredibly impressive debut single, "Cruel"

Seeing its official release yesterday on April 16th, 2021, Langside has come roaring out the gates with a lovely debut single, “Cruel”. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along as we break down our complete thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist.

Currently based out of Sydney, Australia, Langside is an electronic pop artist who is delicately toeing the line of both an electronic and acoustic production. Blending her stellar and uniquely sounding vocals up with a heavenly instrumentation, she’s taking influence directly from her idols such as Maggie Rogers, Vera Blue, Emily King, and so many more.

Specifically on “Cruel”, the artist has provided a bit of an origin story on the track in which she states “Cruel explores the themes of communication breakdown in an intimate relationship and associated feelings of apathy and disconnect. The soaring chorus line and hard hitting bridge contrast with the mood filled verses which amplify this disconnect and bring it to life. Both easy-listening and emotionally punchy, depending on how much attention you pay to the lyrics, this song will strike you three days later while you’re going about your day and bring you back for another listen.”

While the song has only been out for less than 24 hours at the time of writing this, we can confidently state right now that it's already struck us and brought us back for more. We couldn’t help but be overwhelmingly “wowed” by just about everything presented and created on this first single. For so many blossoming artists, it takes at least a few officially released tracks to find a footing and reign in a sound, however, we wouldn’t want anything other than this as it’s just so perfect on its own.

At a little under three and a half minutes in run time, the song starts off with a bang as the piano enters, but as the song goes on and the instrumentation opens up, you can definitely hear glimmers of electronics budding as well. Without a doubt though, the star of the show is the artist’s voice and lyric delivery. It makes the song what it is and 100% puts it above the rest in the genre who are doing things similar. If it sounds like we’re overhyping the song, we apologize, we just really loved what we heard.

Having said all that though, our new hopes and wishes are collectively that we’ll see plenty of more Langside in the future. Considering we’re a little more than a third through 2021 at this point, there’s plenty of opportunity for the artist to share another single, EP, or maybe even a full length record if we’re lucky enough. Whatever it may be though, we’ll enthusiastically be listening!

Wrapping it up though, our suggestion here is for you check out all of the following links below where you can listen and follow along with the artist for everything that’s set to come in the future. Enjoy!
