Last Relapse make a triumphant & atmospheric return with "EP"

After a 13-year disappearance that left a noticeable gap in the Atlanta indie-rock landscape, Last Relapse return with a project that feels like a massive reclamation. Their aptly titled EP is a five-track reminder of why the band’s early run built a cult following, yet it’s also proof that time apart can sharpen a band’s vision rather than splinter it. This is a reunion that doesn’t simply revisit past glories, it expands them into something immersive, emotionally charged, and endlessly replayable.

From the opening moments of “Everyone Dances Outside of Their Bodies”, it’s so perfectly clear the group has rediscovered their chemistry and rebuilt it into something even more dynamic. The guitars remain at the heart of their sound but the band plays with a cohesion and maturity that might not have been fully formed during their 2006–2012 run. The bass work is especially strong this time around, anchoring the EP’s atmospheric sprawl with lines that thrum with melody. Underneath it all, the rhythm section hits with a pulse that feels alive, organic, and deeply locked-in, as if the 13-year break only strengthened their collective talents across the board!

On the lyrical side, Last Relapse were always known for their raw confessionals, but now those feelings are delivered with perspective of living in today’s world. The vocals carry a certain intensity, sometimes breaking with emotion, sometimes soaring, but always connecting with you as the listener. The lyrics land with weight, especially against the EP’s production, which blends atmospheric alternative rock with little elements of post-punk tension and dreaminess. If that’s what you’re searching for, “In My Place” is 100% going to scratch that itch.

The band moves fluidly between explosive moments and more introspective slow-burn pieces that unravel before blooming into a closer that straight up sent shivers down our spines. There’s no filler, just a cohesive arc of sound and emotion that reflects who Last Relapse were, and who they’ve become.

The production hits that rare sweet spot where polish and edge can still coexist. Nothing sounds overworked. Instead, the record carries a sense of air, showcasing the silence in between and actually urging you to be patient rather than that instant gratification. It’s atmospheric, melodic, and powerful without being too overwhelming.

These five songs feel like the closing of an old loop and the confident opening of a new one. For longtime fans, it’s everything they hoped for. For newcomers, it’s a stunning introduction. Wherever you might land, just know that it’s absolutely a record worth checking out! Click those links below to listen in, follow along, and to hopefully stay tuned for more in the works.
