Leave the Bones stands tall with a wide open single, “Heart On My Sleeve”
You’d think that some songs are written to be heard by the world, but in this case, some are written for one person first. “Heart On My Sleeve” from Leave the Bones sits somewhere in between and we think it’s all the better for it. Jeremy Bogen has shaped this track into an anthem of self-trust, a reminder that your own voice is worth standing behind, even when the people around you would rather you didn’t.
Bogen calls the genre an “evolution” from song to song, but the sweet spot here is Americana, with folk storytelling, a slight country heart, and the wide open atmosphere of ambient indie folk. It’s a mix of a lot of genres and it feels slightly experimental at times, yet it’s so easy to connect with. Everything about it suggests a songwriter who has spent time in a lot of different places and absorbed a little from each one.
We thought the song carried a ton of openness and connection. It’s built for anyone who needs a jolt of defiance, like you don’t have to keep making room for people who drain you or put you in danger. There’s confidence in the delivery and it makes you want to stand a little taller while the song plays.
Everything is delivered with genuine heart! The arrangement moves through folk, country, and indie textures and somehow the sound never gets crowded. Each element seems to know its place, giving the song room to breathe and letting the attitude come through clearly.
Bogen’s background adds a lot of depth to the song. He’s a Costa Rica-based surfer and songwriter, he has spent years telling stories for humanitarian organizations before his own music found him. You can hear that sense of purpose in the writing. His goal is to write honestly enough to earn the right to call himself a folk singer and this single feels like it solidifies that in our opinion.
There’s also an exciting chapter on the horizon! Bogen is heading to Los Angeles on November 12th to record a Jam in the Van performance and “Heart On My Sleeve” will certainly be played. He’s working on music with producer Madison Levine which he talked about extensively in our interview, including the single “Darker Still”, which is out as well.
Jeremy and his expanding project Leave The Bones have done such a fantastic job here. So please, go ahead and click those links below to listen in, check out our interview above, and follow along for so much more too. Enjoy!
