Made up of Jill Morey, David Morey, and Josh Rathje, Lost on the Metro are a St. Louis-based trio that are putting together a wide variety of genres that perfectly encapsulate everything great about music. Whether you’re into grunge, alternative, indie folk, or generally anything else, their debut Letters and Landlines is virtually guaranteed to pique your interest. To begin, it was a bit shocking to find out that such greatness had been created by just three individuals. Getting to hear all about the band’s process of creation had to have been the highlight of our talk, mainly because it’s a way of going about things that we’d never run into. Basically the process has turned into Jill’s poetry becoming lyrics, then David creating guitar instrumentals for those lyrics, and then finally bringing the raw and unfinished song to Josh who then works on polishing everything up. Truly, it’s like a conveyor belt system that somehow ended up turning poetic passages into the impeccable album you’re going to experience today.
Seriously though, getting to speak with this group of immensely talented musicians was the highlight of our day. It’s not often we get the full band for an interview, but when we do, the conversation always feels to expand in a positive way and the answers are infinitely more interesting given the perspective gained. While the main priority of this all is for you to check out Letters and Landlines, we still recommend making it a priority to watch or listen to the interview, an absolute pleasure!
