LUNA & The Gents bring humor and heart to “Doggy”

With their newest single “Doggy,” Basel-based band LUNA & The Gents deliver a charming, blues-tinged anthem that celebrates one of life’s most chaotic, hilarious blessings, a stubborn dog who thinks he’s a wolf. It’s a track that’s equal parts humor and heart, wrapped in an irresistibly catchy melody and performed with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’re sitting right there in the studio with them.

In a music landscape now dominated by digital tools and AI-enhanced production, LUNA & The Gents take the opposite approach, recording entirely live with real instruments, classic studio techniques, and no modern shortcuts. That dedication pays off beautifully in “Doggy,” which feels organic, intimate, and refreshingly unpolished in all the right ways. The sound breathes. The room ambience is palpable. This is music performed by humans, and you can hear the joy in every note.

Sonically it’s a bluesy, upbeat ode to a loud, headstrong four-legged friend who alternates between adorable companion and tiny terror. The lyrics, penned by vocalist Evelyne Péquignot, capture the chaos and charm of living with a dog that’s convinced he’s the alpha of the neighborhood. It’s funny, relatable, and delivered with just enough dramatic and theatrical flair to turn everyday frustrations into something sweet. Anyone who’s ever had a pet with a big personality will recognize the story instantly, we know we did!

Evelyne’s vocals sit forward in the mix, and rightly so as her performance is packed with character and a wink of mischief. She carries the song with a warm, expressive tone that feels effortless. Behind her, the band supports with ease and chemistry. It features Matthias van Stipriaan’s bluesy guitar riffs, Yves de Groot’s subtle yet playful keys, Rainer Schudel’s steady bass groove, and Andy Lang’s tight, swinging drums. Together, they create a sound that’s both polished and pleasantly loose, setting you up to have a fantastic time.

The production, guided by composer and producer Leendert van Stipriaan, is crisp yet cozy. Nothing is overdone with each instrument having space, each melody landing cleanly, and the entire track feels like a spontaneous moment captured in real time.

It’s a celebration of life's small, quirky moments, the kind that remind us to laugh, to be patient, and to embrace the lovable chaos around us. It’s a song for pet owners, neighbors with a sense of humor, and anyone who’s ever had their day brightened (or derailed) by a furry friend. LUNA & The Gents have delivered a feel-good gem, one that’ll have you smiling, tapping your feet, and hitting repeat.
