Michellar & Rad Datsun crank it up on an infectiously groovy single, "Game of Love"
With “Game of Love,” Michellar steps into a new chapter, one that’s undeniably brighter and groovier without sacrificing the emotional nuance that has always shaped her songwriting. The track is a collaboration with Rad Datsun, and together the two create a world where affection, tension, and chemistry swirl in a smooth, irresistible groove. It’s easily one of Michellar’s most spirited offerings to date, a refreshing shift in tone too.
Part of the song’s magic lies in its global influence and collaboration! Initially recorded in San Francisco and Minneapolis, the demos traveled thousands of miles before landing in the hands of Romanian producer Marius Alexandru. Instead of diluting the track, the geographical sprawl boosts it, layering the song with textures and emotional hues that feel collected from multiple corners of the world. Alexandru’s production is polished as it breathes, pulses, and it leaves space for the raw intimacy between Michellar and Rad Datsun to take center stage.
That intimacy is the beating heart of “Game of Love.” Their vocal interplay is nothing short of heavenly, a dance between tenderness and tension. Her warmth and Rad Datsun’s complementary tone intertwine beautifully, creating harmonies that feel effortless yet deeply intentional. The backing vocals float around them, reinforcing the emotional stakes without overwhelming the arrangement.
Instrumentally, the track leans into groove-forward pop with an organic charm. The beat is clean and inviting, the rhythm gently infectious, and the guitar work adds a rich layer of character. A late-song guitar solo to close it all out really becomes the perfect exclamation point. It’s not overly showy, but soulful and satisfying on top of what was already a fantastic track.
Compared to Michellar’s previous releases, “Game of Love” feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s lively, rhythmic, and a touch mischievous. It’s a shift in pace that feels not only welcome but fully earned. We absolutely love whenever she releases because of the constant collaboration and never knowing what we’re going to get, but this one certainly rocks!
