MontKeyz debuts his spiritual and uplifting new single, "Lord You Know"

Review by Austin Sher

Upcoming inspirational & soul artist, MontKeyz, has just put forth his wonderful new single, titled “Lord You Know”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth look at what we thought of the new track, as well as a bit of background and insight into the artist himself.

Originally from Mount Vernon, NY, MontKeyz first developed interest in music at the age of six, after his family moved to Wilmington, DE. His musical career started like a lot do, singing and getting involved in the church music scene. After progressing his skills to learn bass, he developed a knack for playing the keyboards in his teens.

MontKeyz’ official start in the music industry began around the age of 22 when he got the opportunity to perform with Platinum recording artist, Kelly Price. After that, his career was only on the up and up. Throughout the years he’s had the opportunities to play and perform with with numerous award winning R&B, hip hop and gospel artists such as Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Young Jeezy, T.I., Fabolous, and so many more massive names.

While his most recent single, “Don’t Pass Me By” was released in 2017, the artist is back in action with the release of this track, “Lord You Know”, that we immediately fell in love with. While we could extrapolate what we thought and how we think the song came about, we had a chance to get the answer directly from the artist himself. According to MontKeyz, “As I was sitting at the keys  meditating, a chord progression I was playing began developing into a melody. While playing the melody, words just begin to flow. I sang those words repetitively as it became the hook to a song that was really birthed out of my conversation to God. I wanted to let him know I’m here and available. I was conveying my willingness to do, say and go wherever He needed. As I continue writing and having a deeper conversation with Him, verses begin to form. I want to touch, change lives , give people hope and my desire is for that agenda to be transparent through the lyrics of the song. So In short , LKY is a product of one of many conversations that I’ve had with God.”

The song has very obvious spiritual beginnings, but it also doubles as an extremely inspirational and uplifting piece of music. Just based on our first listen, it had everything we were looking for in terms of an R&B and gospel hybrid single. As hard hitting and deep as the lyrics are, the overall atmosphere of the song is quite lighthearted. The opening beat is easy to bob your head to and get involved with, and as soon as MontKeyz’ voice begins to take over, that’s when we knew we had a seriously impressive track on our hands.

As far as instrumentation goes, it’s clearly very original and even funky at times. It’s a song you could sit down with and solely listen to the lyrics, or you could happily sing along and vibe with on a long drive in the summer. All in all, we highly recommend you take a listen as we think any true lover of music would be able to appreciate the originality and overall realness that went into it. It’s loaded with passion and we think you’ll have no trouble recognizing that at all.
