Patience Please hit all the high notes on debut EP, "Miles Away"
With Miles Away, Patience Please announce themselves as a band already thinking bigger than the rooms they’re currently playing. The six-track debut EP from the West London trio is an immediately confident record that literally had us focused in within the first 30 seconds of “Wasting Time”. Clocking in at a lean 24 minutes, the record wastes no time making its case, delivering a cohesive rush of indie pop rock that’s certainly polished, but still has an air of grit and endless power from start to finish.
In our opinion, the heart of the EP is its balance. Patience Please thrive in the space between crunch and clarity, pairing muscular guitar work with a pop sensibility that keeps every moment accessible and immediate. The production is sleek throughout, allowing these songs to hit hard while still leaving room for plenty of much needed nuance. Nothing feels overworked or excessive, instead, each track feeds naturally into the next, giving the EP a sense of flow that’s increasingly rare in debut releases. Sure, there’s plenty of singular singles like “Madelaine” or “Miracle”, but as a whole, this thing flows flawlessly.
The band’s frontman Ollie Palmer’s vocals are a major anchor, absolutely soaring with emotion while retaining a grit that keeps things quite interesting. There’s a real earnestness in his voice that cuts through instantly, giving the songs a sense of urgency and the opportunity for you to connect the dots within the words. Around him, Arthur Marriott’s lead guitar work adds sooo much texture, weaving sharp riffs and melody into the mix. Serving all the backbone in the world to the instrumentation, Tommy Lane’s drumming is a complete powerhouse. He stays in the pocket, but there’s surely some standout moments where he goes wild.
Rather than sounding like a collection of early experiments, the EP shows off a band with a clear identity and a strong grasp of their strengths. The melodies are big and memorable, the instrumentation is confident, and the emotional of it all never feels forced. Once again, “Madelaine” is a fantastic example of that. It’s uplifting and vibrant, but there’s substance beneath the shine, a sense that these songs are built on moments they actually lived.
As Patience Please prepare for an extensive 2026 tour, Miles Away feels perfectly positioned to translate into a live setting…if only we weren’t so far from the UK. There’s legitimatel arena-sized sounding songs here that you know are going to shake the walls of packed venues. If Miles Away is the starting point, Patience Please are set to blow up in the very near future. We’re here for it!
