PET Wife sing all the colors of the rainbow on debut pop album, Polychrome

Review by Austin Sher

PET Wife is making waves with the release of their debut album, titled Polychrome. The album is officially released as of today, June 25th, and we’re absolutely loving what we’re hearing! Join us for a review of the album, a bit of background on PET Wife, and more information about how the band is benefiting very important charities.

Before we get into the music, here’s a bit of background on PET Wife. PET Wife is a queer trans couple who independently produce experimental electro pop at Dirty Tailor Studios in Bushwick. Their romance began as a creative tête-á-tête sending playlists, poems, and art back and forth, ultimately culminating in a multi disciplinary concept project incorporating elements of fashion and performance art along a musical journey. Their music is directly influenced by Italo Disco, Krautrock, High NRG, dance pop, art pop, and synth pop. If you’ve listened to Polychrome, all those influences beautifully shine through to make a 9 song cohesive album we’ll be bumping all summer long.

Comprised of Noelle and Isobel, Polychrome is their debut album that we think the world needs to get their hands and ears on. What they’ve created in a 29 minute record is an extremely funky and upbeat take on pop music that we’re digging completely. The rainbow holds a close meaning to the band, as all the titles of the songs are colors of said rainbow. It makes it easy to differentiate song to song and truly made us look forward to which color of the rainbow we’d enjoy the most.

Speaking of, the standout tracks for us were “G.R.E.E.N”, “O.R.A.N.G.E”, and “V.I.O.L.E.T.”. That’s not to say the rest of the album wasn’t great, but that typically all albums have songs that really make you stop and go, wow, that was a fantastic track. Instantly, we started breaking up the album into certain mood playlists, there’s certainly a time and place for every song on this record.

While this is only the first album from PET Wife, we’re crossing our fingers that more will be on the way soon enough. This is a career of a duo that we’ll surely be following closely from here on out! Lastly, we wanted to mention that 15% of the profits will go to GLITS Inc, Black & Pink, and the Okra Project, so get buying and get streaming!
