Plastic Rhino charge forward with the relentless force of “Dark Horizon”
Plastic Rhino return sounding bigger, bolder, and completely unrestrained on “Dark Horizon,” a towering alternative hard rock anthem that feels engineered for maximum headbanging. Released February 25th alongside a striking new music video (below), the track marks a defining moment for the band, pushing their sound into its heaviest and most visceral territory yet. From the opening seconds, there’s no easing into the experience. This song kicks the door down and dares you to keep up!
At the center of the chaos is Plastic Rhino, operating at full throttle. Lead singer Atara Glazer delivers an absolutely commanding performance, seamlessly shifting between brutal screams and beautifully melodic vocals. The balance is easily one of the song’s greatest strengths. The harsh moments hit with ferocity, but they’re never hollow, while the melodic passages bring a sense of emotional lift that keeps the track feeling euphoric rather than downright oppressive. Her voice cuts through the dense instrumentation like a blade.
Jack Glazer’s presence is equally vital, particularly with the debut of his “fry scream” vocals, which add an extra layer of aggression and texture to the whole mix. His signature guitar and bass work drive the song forward with unrelenting force, locking into massive riffs that feel both crushing and precise. The instrumentation is undeniably huge across the board, built to rattle walls and ignite packed venues. When that breakdown hits, it’s as brutal as promised, a moment designed for pure release. Calling it primal would still somehow be an understatement.
The production plays a critical role in making “Dark Horizon” feel so overwhelming in the best possible way. Returning to producer Tom Chandler at Elite Recordings LA, with additional production and drum writing by Ron Geffen, the band sound completely dialed in. The drums are thunderous and dynamic, while the mix and master give every element the space it needs to hit hard without sacrificing clarity. It’s loud, high-octane, and unapologetically massive.
The song confronts darkness head-on, channeling themes of depression and internal struggle into something cathartic and oddly empowering. Rather than wallowing, it transforms that heaviness into motion, into sound you can scream along to, fists raised. We can’t imagine a message like that being delivered in any other way than what the song gives off.
“Dark Horizon” feels tailor-made for sweaty rooms, flashing lights, and mosh pits that refuse to settle down. It’s an all-out rocker that doesn’t hold anything back, a shot of pure adrenaline that demands to be played loud. If this is your intro to Plastic Rhino, well, you’re welcome.
