POND announce 11th album "Terrestrials", plot expansive U.S. Tour

The ever-evolving sonic collective Pond are back, and this time, they’re rewriting their own rulebook. The Australian psych-rock mainstays, featuring members of Tame Impala, have officially announced their forthcoming album Terrestrials, set for release on June 19th via their newly minted imprint Mangovision in partnership with Secretly Distribution. Alongside the announcement comes the unveiling of a new single and video, “Two Hands,” offering the first glimpse into a record that promises both reinvention and continuity.

Now on their 11th studio album, POND, comprised of Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry, and James Ireland, are no strangers to transformation. But Terrestrials marks a particularly deliberate shift. For the first time in their history, the band imposed a strict creative framework during recording: no fuzz pedals, no ballads, and, as they cheekily put it, no “Pink Floyd” indulgences. It’s a self-imposed discipline that has pushed them into new terrain, trading sprawling psychedelia for something leaner, sharper, and unexpectedly grounded.

The result is an album born from a deep reverence for a specific era of Australian rock, one defined by open skies, heat haze, and the unpolished charm of pub backrooms. But POND don’t simply recreate that sound, they mutate it. The guiding aesthetic of Terrestrials has been described as “Goths at the pub,” a striking fusion of sunburnt Australiana and the shadowy textures of post-punk influences like The Sisters of Mercy and Magazine. It’s a concept as vivid as it is intriguing, one that asks equal parts existential and practical questions: Would Goths like it? Could you have a beer to this?

Beyond its sonic experimentation, Terrestrials continues POND’s tradition of exploring the intersection of people and place. The album dives headfirst into weighty themes, from environmental strain and extractive capitalism to power dynamics, inequality, and indigenous incarceration. Yet, even as it grapples with these tensions, the record maintains a sense of hope, balancing its urgency with a belief in resilience, both human and planetary.

To celebrate the release, POND will embark on a major U.S. run this summer, sharing stages with Djo, the musical alias of Joe Keery, while also headlining a series of their own shows from July through September. It’s a fitting pairing, two artists navigating the space between indie credibility and experimental ambition, and a tour that promises to bring Terrestrials to life in all its sweaty, hypnotic glory.

If the first taste is anything to go by, POND aren’t just revisiting their roots, they’re reimagining them entirely. With Terrestrials, they continue to prove that evolution isn’t just part of their identity, it is their identity.
