Radical Man finds his voice on an immersive 2nd single, "River"
There’s always such a thrill in hearing an artist crack something open that changes the entire shape of what they do, and that is exactly what happens on "River," the second release from Radical Man. Freshly released on July 24th, 2026, this is a project built on tension, on the friction between structure and chaos, and "River" finds a genuinely fun new way to explore that territory by doing something the project has never done before. Prepare for an adventure!
The origin story alone makes this single feel special. "River" began life as an improvisational jam recorded in a Portland hotel room, all spontaneous electronic experimentation, before Keefe took that raw material back into the studio and built it out with acoustic drums and layered vocals. That process shows up in the final product as a kind of duality that is rare to pull off well. The track feels loose and alive, like it could mutate at any second, while also sounding meticulously arranged and polished. At times it feels like improv of course, but there was 100% a vision here that’s come to life in the coolest way.
Sonically, "River" is an absolute headphone record. The bass doesn’t just sit in the mix, it lands in your chest and stays there, giving the whole track a physical, visceral pull. Around it, the atmosphere is doing incredible work, wrapping every element in a hazy, immersive glow that pulls you all the way in rather than sitting back. The drum work is a massive highlight, with these patterns that keep destabilizing and reforming. It’s legitimately not often we’re on the edge of our seat listening to a song, but the suspense was at an all time high on the first listen.
Then there are the vocals, which might be the most interesting choice on the whole song. Rather than pushing them to the front, Keefe buries them slightly in the mix, letting them function almost like another instrument threading through the arrangement instead of a focal point. It’s a smart, restrained decision that keeps "River" feeling unique. If anything, we felt it added even more to an atmosphere that at times was overbearing in the best way possible.
Clocking in right around four minutes, "River" never overstays its welcome! It simply pulls you into its current, lets you feel every ripple of bass and texture, and releases you before the spell breaks. As a first vocal outing for Radical Man, this is an outstanding sign of where this project's artistic vision is headed next.
