Rania Khoury shares her enchanting new EP, Tired/Wired

Review by Austin Sher

Rania Khoury is back with her third official release, this time a wonderful EP titled Tired/Wired. Read along for a review of the record, as well as a bit of background on Khoury’s musical history.

Tired/Wired is an EP that came just in time for this beautiful summer weather. After our first listen, we were instantly hooked on what Khoury was cooking up. Khoury teamed up with top Dallas Fort Worth pop rock producer Shohn (Young Optimist), and we can tell, because the production on the EP is top notch. You can tell that a real special care was placed on Tired/Wired as every song shines from track to track.

The lead single for the EP was “When You Say My Name”, and according to Khoury, “a track about the complexity of relationships and desire. “The song is sultry but not overtly sexualized,” Khoury says. “As human beings, what sets us apart is our ability to dive into our minds, daydream and fantasize.” “I wanted to explore a deeper side of humanity and what makes us all human and alike,” she says, “and that comes down to struggle.”

“When You Say My Name” was definitely a favorite of ours, but let’s forget about all the other gems that were featured as well. What I love about the record is that not only does it flow perfectly from start to finish, but it was also super easy to cherry pick specific singles and put them into different mood playlists. I think that just goes to show the immense amount of range that Khoury developed while making the record. It’s filled with plenty of highs and lows and piques your interest from start to finish. While Khoury’s 2013 full LP release, Stone Wolf, was certainly a fantastic album, Tired/Wired is quickly giving it a run for its money.

All in all, we’re thrilled that this record crossed our path, especially because it’s another big win in the catalogue for Culture Hype artists. Whatever they’ve got in the water over in Dallas, it’s definitely churning out plenty of artists that are worth keeping your eye on.
