Robsol engineers a heartwarming EP, "Something Different"

Freshly released on March 8th, 2021, Robsol has made his return with an all new EP, titled Something Different. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on the artist as well.

Born in Wadesboro, NC and raised in Monroe, NC, Robsol has been involved in music since the young age of 7. Seeking influence from artists such as Jodeci and Calvin Richardson to Tank, along with church influencers, Robsol knew that he wanted to be a professional R&B/Soul singer & songwriter.

While his debut album The Diary of Robert Smith was released in 2003, he’s been fairly steady in putting out follow ups since then. On Something Different specifically, Robsol has managed to encapsulate pure beauty within his vocals, extensive lyricism, and a precision like production. Coming in at 5 songs, spanning 16 minutes, this was truly a wonderful bite size record that tells a complete story from start to finish.

To be honest, it would be incredibly difficult to pick a favorite track from the record. However, we did feel that the opener “Attention” was the perfect encapsulation of what makes Robsol’s sound so unique. Considering that it is an EP though, our obvious recommendation would be for you to listen to it in full. Start off with the opener obviously, but let the music relaxingly flow through you from track to track. The vocal representation and delivery that the artist pulls off here is quite unique and deserves your close attention and focus.

Seeing that he’s quite talented in his music making and production, what really stood out considerably was the songwriting aspect. Taking his life experiences and wrapping them up into one cohesive listen had to be a difficult endeavour, but as you’ll be able to tell, he’s pulled it off. Not to sound like we’re overhyping, but really there’s so much greatness exuding from Something Different. It’s a piece of art as much as it is a piece of music.

With all that being said, it should clearly come as no surprise that this is a record and an artist that we’re recommending you give your time. We’ll definitely have our eyes and ears peeled for the next big release on the way. Enjoy!
