Sophie Moore delivers graceful beauty on album, "Trouble in Mind"
Right off the bat, this is a special kind of album that feels like it was made with patience and care rather than rushed toward a release date, and "Trouble in Mind" is exactly that kind of record. UK based singer songwriter Sophie Moore's new LP, out now via Bandcamp following the rollout of four singles earlier this year, is a warm, deeply considered ten song collection that rewards you more with every listen.
You should know that Moore isn't new to this. She spent the 80’s touring internationally as part of the London indie group Foggy Cry, a band she formed alongside her brother Julian Moore, and that decades deep musical instinct shows up all over this record. "Trouble in Mind" moves gracefully between alternative country and adult contemporary, and that blend gives the album a really inviting shape. It's soaked in hope without ever feeling naive, and there's a real sense of decorum running through the arrangements, like every note was placed with intention. You get softly introduced through “Closer Than”, and believe us when we say it somehow gets even better from there.
A lot of that comes down to the team Moore assembled for this project. Working with producer Mark Nevers alongside members of alt country legends Lambchop, plus a rotating cast of Nashville session players, she recorded these songs over several weeks split between South Carolina and Sussex in 2025, and that international, collaborative spirit really comes through in the finished product. The percussion is peaceful and unhurried, the guitars have this light shimmer to them, and the piano work throughout feels playful without ever stepping on the songs' more tender moments. Horns show up here and there too, adding a lovely bit of depth and color that rounds the whole thing out beautifully.
Through it all, Moore's vocals are the real anchor! Her voice is angelic, and the mixing here is genuinely perfect, letting her sit right in the center of every track without ever feeling overpowered or buried. The storytelling across the album is excellent too, personal in a way that still manages to feel universal, the kind of songwriting that invites you to find your own meaning in it rather than spelling everything out.
We also think it’s important to talk about the varying energies on this record. Not every song aims to get you dancing or anything like that, but the songs certainly have their own vibe all the while keeping that album experience. The opener livens things up, while the next two go down a bit, but as soon as you get to the slightly jazzy “All The Small Secrets”, things find a perfect pace.
"Trouble in Mind" isn't just a collection of songs, it's a true album experience as mentioned, and one that firmly reaffirms Sophie Moore as a storyteller well worth your time.
