The Blazing Suns shine brighter than ever on remastered EP, "Transcendence"

Portland’s The Blazing Suns have always thrived on a kind of sonic restlessness. Frontman Jimmy Ling has made it clear that pinning their music down to a single genre is a losing game, and that’s exactly what makes Transcendence such a joy. Originally released last year, the band’s four-song EP has been remixed and remastered into a gleaming, full-bodied showcase of everything they do best: groove-heavy rhythms, sky-scraping melodies, and an irresistible balance of fun and depth. At just 15 minutes, it manages to be both compact and expansive, a concise journey that leaves you wanting more.

From the start, the EP makes a bold statement with its blend of disco shimmer, arena rock punch, and modern electronic polish. The production now feels fully realized as each beat lands with weight, the synths sparkle with newfound clarity, and the vocals, always the band’s wild card, cut through with confidence and character. Ling’s delivery is singular, riding the line between raw emotion and playful experimentation, giving the songs a personality that’s as unique as it is inviting.

What makes Transcendence stand out is how it marries nostalgia and modernity without ever feeling forced. The grooves are undeniably danceable, often evoking the disco-funk strut of the late ’70s, while the synths lean into new-wave and even slight contemporary electronic territory. Yet somehow, The Blazing Suns tie it all together into a package that feels fresh. It’s music that could soundtrack both a late-night underground club and a stadium singalong.

There’s also a sense of uplift threaded through the entire project. These tracks aren’t just meant to be listened to, they’re meant to be experienced, preferably live, where their high-energy grooves and infectious spirit could transform into full-blown communal celebrations. The band’s knack for creating music videos that amplify their songs only strengthens that energy, showing they understand not just how to craft a sound, but how to build a world around it.

The remastering of Transcendence doesn’t just polish old material, it reveals the brilliance that was always there, now in sharper focus. The Blazing Suns have crafted a short but powerful statement that captures the joy of making music without boundaries. It’s genre-defiant, uplifting, and proof that this band is ready for bigger stages and bigger audiences.

For us, it was legitimately difficult to pick out a “favorite”. Though with the latest release of their music video for “The Anguish of Existence” (linked below), the video gives the song a whole new meaning. We urge you to enjoy all of it, which you can do by clicking those links below! Don’t forget to follow along as well.
