The Growlers dazzle their fans with surprise released EP, ‘Dream World’

Review by Austin Sher

After the extremely successful release of The Growlers’ 2019 release, Natural Affair, the Southern California rockers return with an all new EP, Dream World.

What may very well be Natural Affair B-sides that we’re hearing on Dream World, you can’t help but think, does it even matter? Who cares where the songs came from as long as they’re released and available to fans far and wide. Based off only a few listens of the EP, we’re fully in love with what the group has brought to us on a platter during very tough times for all. If you haven’t yet dug into the 2 tracks, what are you waiting for?

First up is the EP title track, Dream World, which is about as classic as The Growlers could possibly get. Brooks Nielsen’s voice shines as bright and raspy as ever with the vocal delivery we all wish we could give. I almost get a dream pop feel from the track as it is short, sweet, and upbeat in all the right ways. Imagine yourself sprawled on the beach, not a person in sight, and the sun shining down, this is the type of song I’d want playing directly through my headphones. This will for sure be a constant playlist listen for the foreseeable future.

Moving to the second track, Random Everyone, it is equally as enjoyable, but not quite as upbeat as we could’ve hoped for. I truly like it as an isolated track and the layered vocal melodies are creative as ever, but it’s too short for my full liking. The bass line really shines here and has me bobbing my head throughout the track. Overall, it’s the 2nd best of the 2 tracks, which isn’t really a huge problem. They both exist and were a surprise, so who can really complain here!
