Tori Lord hits hard on a powerful Pop single, “Conman” - Interview

Pop music has always thrived on confrontation and being as real as you possibly can. The best songs don’t simply describe betrayal or disappointment, they transform those emotions into spectacle. “Conman” by Tori Lord understands balance perfectly. It’s sharp-edged and vulnerable at the same time, a towering modern pop anthem that cuts deep while still leaving room for bruised humanity underneath the gloss. Needless to say, we instantly fell in love with her latest!

From the moment the production crashes into focus, “Conman” arrives with the most confidence. The track is bold and cinematic in all the right ways, driven by sleek percussion, massive synth textures, and layering that constantly rewards repeat listens. This is headphone music in the truest sense. Tiny vocal details, atmospheric touches, and plenty more reveal themselves more fully the deeper you sink into the mix.

That balance owes a lot to the creative team behind the song. Working alongside producer Marty Martino of Down With Webster fame and songwriter Theo Tams, the winner of Canadian Idol, Lord crafts a sound rooted in polished modern pop but it’s still very much got her own signature touch lying underneath. Under the mentorship of Rob Wells, known for his work on Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” she’s developed an approach that feels contemporary without sounding algorithmically assembled.

We’d be fools though if we didn’t talk specifically about her vocals on this track! Her voice carries a ton of emotion and is as dynamic as ever, which makes perfect sense considering her background. Before stepping into pop as a solo artist, Lord spent years immersed in Canada’s elite choirs and musical theatre world, even joining Celine Dion on the legendary Let’s Talk About Love tour.

She doesn’t oversing though. She doesn’t rely on theatrics to communicate pain or frustration. Instead, she delivers lines with a cool, self-aware sharpness that makes the lyrics hit harder. “Conman” hits so hard because Lord refuses to romanticize bad experiences. She dissects them clinically, exposing manipulation and dishonesty without ever positioning herself as helpless.

The greatness of everything came through clearly during our interview with Tori, where we spoke extensively about the making of “Conman,” her creative process, her influences, and the winding path that brought her from large stages to fully stepping into her own identity as a pop artist. She knows exactly who she is as an artist, and she’s building her sound with patience and intention rather than chasing the hot new thing.

“Conman” feels like the work of an artist arriving fully formed. Surely it’s “pop”, but when you really dig deeper, it’s so much more than that. We urge everyone out there to give this song a spin, to follow along, and of course to stay tuned for more. You can do so by clicking those links below, don’t miss out!
